Make The Holidays Memorable For A Child

So, I thought I had a great post written about family and the holidays. I titled it “Holiday Hell”.

garlic manI wrote about a memorable Thanksgiving dinner where certain family members showed up with garlic necklaces and  sat across from me at the dinner table. I can take a hint.  It’s probably me they have a problem with but I wondered why?  Could it be the fact that I’m a tiny bit evil and I cast spells on people? But I thought I apologized for  that one Vodoo Doll incident. Then, it dawned on me. Apparently, they’re a little concerned that “Ahmed the dead terrorist” was my second cousin. Do I have to apologize for him too?

I asked my husband to read it before I posted it. To my dismay, he said, “You can’t talk about my family.”

“I can’t?” I stared at him in shock. “But I ran out of material about my family?” He walked away and mumbled, “You need an attitude adjustment.”

Oh My Goodness!! He’s such a genius.  That’s exactly what I need for the Holidays, a new ATTITUDE!

I love the cooking, the shopping, the decorating, the extra weight I put on from eating everything in sight, the stress and especially the cleaning, my favorite.

Honestly and truly, I look forward to the Holidays.  Starting with Thanksgiving and my mother-in-laws turkey and stuffing to the look on my kids faces when they wake up on Christmas morning and run downstairs to check what Santa brought them. Yes, even at their age. Although Santa overslept last year, it was still fun.

People lost the true meaning of the holiday celebrations and why we celebrate Christmas. We get so sucked into the commercial aspect of the holidays and the stress of it all that we forget how lucky we are to be healthy and to have our loved ones with us. Let’s count our blessings!

This year, I will be heading a Marine Toys For Tots Drive in memory of our Hero,”Kyle Weston Wilks” killed in Afghanistan. I hope you will join me by donating or spreading the word and help make a child’s Christmas merry.  Click on this website http://www.gofundme.com/corporal-kyle-wilks/ Anything you can give is appreciated.

Deployed to Heaven

What is the special gift you will give this holiday season to make someone else’s Christmas a better one?

  1. I agree–the holidays are a time to reflect and be grateful for all the blessings in our life. Sadly though, here in America where Black Friday shopping hits before the turkey has grown cold, people who just HOURS before said how thankful they were, are rushing out to buy MORE stuff to be “thankful” for. What happened to just spending the day home with family? I miss the good ol’ days!

      Marcia,
I appreciate you stopping by and reading my post.
I’m especially frustrated because I had to cut my Thanksgiving short with the family to bring my daughter back home so she can go to work. When she got there, the line was wrapped around the building. As long as people shopping on Thanksgiving (tons are), sadly this won’t change. Like you, I miss the ol’days:(

Oh GoGO Cousin, I love your soul , seriously, you are far from a VOODOO in this Universe.
I’ll take your ATTITUDE any time :)))))))
and Yes people seemed to have forgotten the real spirit of the holidays , very Sad and that’s why I CHOOSE to stay with my family on Christmas Eve so I can enjoy the spirit of being with everyone I love (not for the gift, because my family is all the gift I ever want , the gift that money can NEVER buy ) or else you know i’ll be on the Plane to see my african Kids right now :)

  3. Thanks for the reminder. And I love your dedication to Cpl. Wilks. Semper Fidelis ♥

Thanks Cindra for stopping by and reading this post. Kyle made a difference in our lives and I hope to do the same for someone else in his memory. God Bless! Love your blog:)

  4. AWESOME post!!! I can’t believe how bad it’s gotten with commercialism and all that suffocates the true meaning from Christmas. What a beautiful thing you are doing with the Marine Toys For Tots drive. Absolutely beautiful. I hope we all can get ‘out of ourselves’ a bit more this season and give more than take.

Amen to that Chris! That’s the least I can do for Corporal Wilks. He truly was our angel when we needed him in 2006. I hope I’m successful at it so I can continue doing every year. Hugs my friend:)

  5. You know, I have people who are trying to hurt me, steal from me and lie about me to my children. I have stopped blogging several times this past year. I shut it down at least 4 or 5 times, but I am facing them dead on. Even changed the title for them. I’m finding the stregnth and courage to keep writing even tho I know they’re reading and will try to use it against me. It’s very hard, but fuck it.

Oh my gosh Donna! That’s awful :( I can’t believe the things people do. You need to keep on, stay strong and fight them head on. Get it out there, eventually they’ll go away. That’s what I plan to do. Prayers and hugs your way!
